Why Is the Ortho-Ortho Isomer Important in EDDHA?
EDDHA can exist in different isomeric forms. Among these, the ortho-ortho (o,o) isomer is one of the most important forms for maintaining iron stability in the soil.
The ortho-ortho isomer forms a strong complex with iron, helping maintain iron in a more stable and plant-available form, particularly under high-pH and calcareous soil conditions.
Therefore, when evaluating EDDHA products, looking only at the “6% Fe” specification is not sufficient. The ortho-ortho isomer level is an important quality parameter when assessing the potential performance of an EDDHA product under high-pH and calcareous conditions.
How Does the Ortho-Ortho Level Affect Performance?
In general, a higher ortho-ortho level is associated with a greater capacity of EDDHA to maintain iron stability, particularly in alkaline and calcareous soils.
